In this objective, children will learn how to combine bases and stems to build compound words.
Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:

Build a variety of compound words
Investigate specific bases that can attach to more than one other base to build a range of compound words
Recognise where compound words can be built from stems as well as bases
Use reasoning skills to identify and explain which words are compound words
Recognise that some compound word can function as adjectives
Develop an understanding that compound words can be built from two stems such as the words 'groundskeeper' and 'babysitter'
Know that compound words can be closed, open, or hyphenated
Learn that compound words can also be formed with Greek and Latin bases
Engage in practical games to reinforce learning
