In this objective, children will recap their understanding of vowel and consonant letters in words. This lesson is designed as a follow-on from the Year 3-4 Vowels and Consonants objective. If, after completing the first lesson in this objective, children are not yet secure with these key concepts, you may wish to revisit the Year 3-4 objective, or even the Year 2 objective to close gaps in understanding before moving on.

The objective spans three 20-minute lessons, focusing on:

• Understanding the vocabulary we use to talk about how words are written down
• Practising using our knowledge of vowels and consonants to help us apply suffixing rules
• Recapping our understanding of stressed vowel sounds and why they are important in suffixing rules
• Engaging in practical games to reinforce learning
